Covering the downtown core of the city of Vancouver, this riding is accessible via highways 99, 1A and 7A and several SkyTrain stops. The riding is approximately 3,543 km from Parliament Hill as the crow flies, or a 43-hour drive.
This riding includes Stanley Park, Sunset Beach Park, and the Vancouver Aquarium; it is located on the shores of English Bay, False Creek, and Coal Harbour,
Vancouver Centre is also home to Granville Island, the Beatty Street Drill Hall and Seaforth Armoury, and HMCS Discovery.
About 37% of the riding’s population are immigrants, with some of the largest populations born in Iran, China, and the United Kingdom.
Mandarin, Persian, and Cantonese are the most common non-official mother tongues in the riding.
Approximately 2% of the riding’s population identify as Aboriginal.

In addition to Stanley Park and various other parks in the area, the riding contains the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library, BC Place, Rogers Arena, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and the Telus World of Science.
The Vancouver Maritime museum, which houses the famous St. Roch, the first vessel to complete the Northwest Passage from west to east in one season, is also located in the riding.
Singers Bryan Adams and Michael Bublé, actors Yannick Bisson and Erica Cerra, and former Prime Minister Kim Campbell all hail from Vancouver.
Bard on the Beach has brought Shakespearian plays to Vancouver audiences for 28 seasons as of 2017. Presented in a magnificent setting on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, the Festival offers Shakespeare plays, related dramas, and several special events in two performance tents from June through September, in addition to significant educational and community outreach programs.
The industries that employ the most people in this riding include professional, scientific and technical services, accommodation and food services, health care and social assistance, and educational services. Around 75% of the workforce in the riding has some sort of postsecondary education and in 2011 the unemployment rate in the riding was 6.2%.
On the outskirts of the urbanized city sits Vancouver’s largest and oldest park – Stanley Park. The park stretches 400 hectares, including trails, beaches, wildlife, Canada’s largest aquarium, and the longest uninterrupted waterfront path known as the Seawall.
Vancouver has had human inhabitants since the last ice age about 10,000 years ago. The city lies on the traditional territory of three Coast Salish peoples. European exploration of the area first occurred in the late 1790s as Spanish and British captains explored Georgia Strait and Burrard Inlet. European settlement began in earnest in the 1860s and increased with the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
