Lethbridge is the largest city in southern Alberta, making it the commercial, financial, transportation, and industrial centre of the region. Half of the population is employed in the health, education, retail, and service industries, and the top five employers are government-based.
Agriculture has been the traditional industry of Lethbridge County and it is Canada’s largest cattle-producing region. This has led to the establishment of large research centres in the riding such as the Lethbridge Research Centre, along with the Lethbridge Animal Diseases Research Institute, which employs more than 400 researchers and scientists to study food safety, efficiency, and methods for increasing agricultural production.
