Norfolk County farmers grow more asparagus, cabbage, cucumber, ginseng, peppers, pumpkins, squash and zucchini, sour cherries, strawberries, sweet corn, and sweet potatoes than anywhere else in Ontario.
The top industries in the riding are manufacturing, health care and social assistance, and retail trade. About 15% of the workforce is employed in manufacturing.
About 47% of the labour force has some post-secondary education.
Southern Ontario is roughly in the same latitude as southern France, regions familiar with the growing of tender fruit. Similarly, the land has the growing conditions to consistently ripen a variety of common grape vines. While the Lake Erie region isn’t as well-known as other wine-growing areas in the country, the exceptional soil and warm conditions all make it possible to grow some of the country’s best wine.
