The Eric Sharp Arena in Saint-Lambert was built with a unique curved ceiling made from western red cedar. It was so special that the rink was used as a location for several television commercials. In later years the arena was beginning to show its age and it was slated to be demolished, until a group of citizens began speaking out. The arena, with its distinctive red cedar, has been saved and is open once again for public skating.
When the Couvée Islands Bird Sanctuary was established in 1994, its population of ring-billed gulls numbered 30,000 pairs. Since 2009, there have been no reports of any nesting anywhere in the sanctuary. A growing population of red foxes is the most widely accepted explanation.
