The Sothern part of the riding borders North Dakota to the south and Saskatchewan to the west.
Turtle Mountain Provincial Park in Boissevain is home to more than 200 lakes and wetlands. It contains hardwood forests of aspen, Manitoba maple, elm, black poplar, ash and birch.
The largest reserves of oil and natural gas in Manitoba are found in the southwest area of constituency due to the Bakken Formation.
The area is well known for its fertile soil which can grow sunflowers, canola, wheat, barley, flax, oats and soybeans. There are also vast grazing pastures which supports many cattle and bison producers.
It is also home to numerous lakes such as Oak Lake, Rock Lake, Whitewater Lake and Pelican Lake. Both the Souris and Assiniboine Rivers cross many municipalities and are known to spill their banks during spring runoff.
