One of the riding’s most famous citizens was Robert Cliche, the former politician, lawyer, and judge who led the inquiry into organized crime in Quebec’s construction industry in the 1970s. Other well-know personalities from the riding include Caroline Busque and David Dostie, business people and maple syrup’s exporters, Gil Champagne, former artistic director of Le Trident theater in Quebec City, and Jean-Louis Roy, ex-editor of Le Devoir and former Secretary-General of the Agence de coopération culturelle et technique.
The Tour de Beauce is one of North America’s oldest bike races.
Maxime Bernier’s father Gilles was the MP for Beauce from 1984 until 1997, initially as a Progressive Conservative and later as an independent. He was Canada’s ambassador to Haiti from 1997 to 2001.
